What we do
|
|
Physiotherapy is a non-invasive, medicine free form of therapy that is concerned with human movement and normal function.
As physiotherapists we are trained to understand how muscles, bones and nerves interact to produce patterns of normal movement that allow us to perform without pain or dysfunction. Occasionally, either through injury, poor posture, repetitive strain or just the aging process, our bodies can be adversely affected during normal functioning, thus causing pain and dysfunction.
Recognising why these problems have occurred and understanding specifically what to do about them is the very essence of physiotherapy. Our expertise is therefore not confined to elite performers but rather to anyone who is currently suffering with musculoskeletal pain. Our philosophy is to dedicate our knowledge, experience, and whatever time necessary to identifying, treating and then preventing the cause of this pain.

Knee pain and Injury
Dan has a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic knee pain and injury. Having worked within specialist knee clinics, Dan has developed an excellent clinical knowledge of just about all types of acute knee injury, in addition to more chronic and post surgical knee pain and dysfunction.

Musculoskeletal Pain and Injury
At some time in our lives we will all suffer some form of musculoskeletal pain. Whether through work, looking after children, indulging in simple leisure activities or even pursuing a higher level sporting interest, the normal stresses and strains associated with these activities are very likely to cause pain and distress at some stage in all our lives. Our aim is to investigate and understand why these activities are causing you pain and what action is required to ease the pain and then to prevent it from reoccurring. By utilising a reasoned, problem solving approach to assess your problem we can effectively diagnose and treat a multitude of problems - regardless of where in your body the pain has manifested itself. |

Sports Injuries
Having travelled to Australia to successfully complete his Masters degree in sports physiotherapy, Dan clearly has a special interest in treating and rehabilitating all types of sports injury. Whether treating elite performers, or those pursuing a less lucrative interest in sport and leisure, Atlantic Physiotherapy will provide a professional level of care to all those who require it.

Movement & Biomechanical Analysis & Correction
Repetitive strain and movement related pain is often caused by faulty movement patterns. Previous injury, faulty technique/sports equipment or just plain muscle weakness can result in poor performance and, ultimately, pain. Analysis of specific movement patterns during work or sporting activity can reveal hidden problems that, when corrected, can dramatically reduce pain and significantly improve performance. |

Rehabilitation
The critical aspect of injury prevention is education through rehabilitation. We accept that it is often difficult to commit to a rehabilitation regime if the relevance of it is not clearly understood. Understanding why you are getting pain is essential to eradicating it. It is our duty to identify the cause of the pain and then to rehabilitate specifically to affect its’ cause and prevent reoccurrence. Rehabilitation programmes will be creative and progressive to allow a graded exposure to stress and strain thus optimising your return to a healthier pain free lifestyle.
Our treatments include:
- Soft tissue and Joint Mobilisation
- Manipulation
- Deep Tissue Massage
- Dry Needling/Acupuncture
- Corrective Rehabilitation and Education
- Ergonomic and Performance Advice

Sports Specific Screening
For those wishing to avoid injury or those who simply want to aspire to a greater level of sporting excellence Atlantic can offer a Sports Screening Programme that will identify the specific musculoskeletal requirements of a sport and their potential for injury. Our aim is to highlight individual performance risk factors that are of potential concern whilst maximising kinaesthetic awareness that will enhance performance |
